2024 April. Kindle Scribe
Books I'm reading #
Advanced Web Application Architecture by Matthias Noback. I have mixed feelings about it. The general premise is good, but it's hard to say how those things apply to React/UI development. I lack advice about when to follow a particular pattern. But, most of it makes sense so I'm still reading.
Books I've read #
Polish: Wałkowanie Ameryki by Marek Wałkuski. That's a book I wanted to read for a couple of years now to learn more about the USA. It's nice to better understand the culture of people I work with for so many years now.
Elsewhere on the Web #
How the US Is Destroying Young People’s Future | Scott Galloway | TED
Yes, Social Media Really Is a Cause of the Epidemic of Teenage Mental Illness by Jon Haidt
Stanford Keto Study is Revolutionizing Mental Health by Nicholas Norwitz PhD
The Psychology of Depression and Anxiety - Dr. Scott Eilers.
Boeing’s long fall, and how it might recover by Dominic Gates
Corporate America: Employees Need Stability, Not Constant Change by Ashley Goodall, Vishakha Darbha
The Gravitational Force of Tech Money by Dave Karpf
Rethinking My Economics By Angus Deaton
Tech #
We're moving continuous integration back to developer machines by DHH
I'm a programmer and I'm stupid by Anton Zhiyanov
In defense of simple architectures by Dan Luu
Powerfoyle. Not sure if this isn't too good to be true, but I really like the premise of solar cells built into everyday objects.
I’m OK; The Bull Is Dead by Gopal K. Kapur
Fun #
Deadpool & Wolverine | Official Trailer | In Theaters July 26
Acquisition Translator | Good Tech Things
Personal Thoughts #
I bought a Kindle Scribe:
- My old iPad battery got really bad.
- I do not have enough free space for physical books.
- My Kindle Paperwhite is too small for reading technical books (code and graphs are a problem).
- I realize that my iPad is more about distraction than anything useful.
To be honest, I only use it as a bigger e-reader, but this is what's great about it. It needs to be impossible to do anything else on it and I was wasting way too much time on my iPad. Anyone saying that it's all just tools and only your intent and willpower matter doesn't know what they are talking about or are incentivized to be saying it. Unfortunately, I don't see an alternative to a smartphone.
